Dog and cat owners in urban areas in China spent RMB 206.5 billion (€27.5 billion) on pet food, supplies, medicines, and services in 2020. Looking ahead, COVID will likely boost the market for pet food, supplies, medicines, and services, with people spending more time at home and therefore using their pets to relieve stress and curb loneliness. In addition, there is room for sustainable future growth of this sector in China as pet owners are paying increasing attention to their pet’s health and nutrition, with meals and services, including care and medical attention, all seeing a surge in consumer popularity.

The EU SME Centre and the China-Britain Business Council organised on 16 December 2021 an online workshop as a launch event of the new report on Pet Food, Supplies, and Services in China

The Report “Market for Pet Food, Supplies, and Services in China” navigates the pet food, pet supplies, and pet services markets in China. Specifically, the report analyses:

  • The existing competitive landscape and detailing the latest relevant policies, laws, and provisions, respectively for pet food, supplies, and services;
  • Recent and future developments, consumer trends, key players, and opportunities and challenges in the sector for EU SMEs.

The Report provides a comprehensive overview of China’s market for pet food, pet supplies and pet services as it stands now, and to point the way ahead for EU SMEs looking to take advantage of the opportunities in this market.
