Proton Products is a manufacturer of optical measuring equipment used to measure the process of cable manufacturing and to monitor steel production. The company was founded in 1999 in the United Kingdom.
Upon establishment, the founders designated China as a cost-effective alternative for their manufacturing base. Initially engaged in a joint venture with a local stakeholder, the company soon smoothly transitioned into becoming one of the first foreign wholly owned companies in China.
Located in Chengdu, Proton Products soon outgrew its initial office space and needed to expand. This case study describes the company’s experience in moving from one tax district to another in Chengdu and provides recommendations to SMEs.
This case study was compiled in partnership with the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC).
