Post event | Indirect Sales & Business Partners in China

24 June 2021

On 22 June 2021, the EU SME Centre (the Centre), EUROCHAMBRES, our official partner, TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme, and the ChinaIP SME Helpdesk organised an online training session aiming at explaining European SMEs how to find suitable business partners in China.

The participants were welcomed by Ferran Huidobro, International project manager at TecnoCampus Mataró, and Elisabeth Jordà Llosada, President of the Network of Science and Technology Parks of Catalonia (XPCAT) who presented their initiatives while sharing potential opportunities for SMEs.

The webinar was lectured by Felim Meade, cofounder of Emerald Green Baby, and gathered around 45 participants from all around Europe. Felim introduced the most common selling channels in China the audience emphasizing the growing role of Cross Border E-Commerce (CBEC) as an affordable platform for SMEs. He also remarked the importance of choosing the right selling channel depending on the product type and resources available of each business. Felim shared essential but practical tips on where to find and how to secure business partners based on the chosen selling channel(s) and encouraged the audience to be patient when contacting potential business partners as it usually takes four to five contacts to develop a relationship in China.

¨Do not go national directly, start regionally or even smaller, and don’t give away all the rights to one single partner for all channels, differentiate between general trade and CBEC¨

Alessandra Capriglia, Project Executive at the China IP SME Helpdesk, introduced the project and explained the audience the huge importance of protecting a company’s intellectual property when entering new markets and/or developing new partnerships.

The webinar was closed with a Q&A session where participants had the chance to submit queries and exchange with Felim and Alessandra.
