On 19 March 2024, the EU SME Centre, in partnership with the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, held its latest policy meeting. This event assembled experts and stakeholders from the European diplomatic and business associations to discuss the impact of China’s recent legislative developments on its economic and political landscape.
Dan Wang, Chief Economist at Hang Seng Bank, and Neil Thomas, Fellow in Chinese Politics at the Asia Society, provided their insights on the outcomes of the meetings. Their presentations offered a comprehensive look at the repercussions of China’s legislative assemblies on its economic ambitions and policy shifts, alongside a deep dive into the evolving political scene.
Dan Wang’s presentation focused on the economic headwinds China is navigating, especially considering recent legislative developments. Neil Thomas shed light on the complex dynamics of China’s political environment, emphasising the significance of Party-State relations.
