China, with a population of more than 1.4 billion people, is the first importer of agri-food goods in the world, having surpassed the United States of America and the European Union in 2019. The country currently accounts for 6, 4% of global imports, valued at around $140 billion.
The increase in urbanization, as well as in the income earned by a growing middle class, with increasingly higher standards of living, have been accompanied by a concern with food security and a growing demand for differentiated, healthy and high quality imported products.
In this context, the agri-food sector in China, whether due to the dynamism it is experiencing or its demographic dimension, presents vast business opportunities for European companies seeking alternative export markets or wishing to diversify their international client portfolio.
On 14 October 2021, from 11:00-12:30 (CEST), the AICEP Academy will host a webinar dedicated to the Chinese market, at which the best approaches for companies that are already present or intend to start exporting Portuguese products from the agrifood sector will be discussed. The EU SME Centre will be represented by Liam Jia, Operational Manger of the Centre, and Bart Horsten, Consultant and Expert of the Centre, who will present the legal and bureaucratic aspects when exporting agrifood products to China.
The webinar aims to present the current market context. Bearing the recent crisis in mind, it will also seek to showcase recent trends as well as specific perspectives of the agri-food and beverage sector within this market, along with the the business opportunities that it offers.
