The EU SME Centre and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China are looking for an expert to give a presentation on the new “Regulations on Promoting and Regulating Cross-border Data Flow” adopted in March by the Cyberspace Administration of China. A seminar on the topic will be held on 16 May 2024 in Beijing and online.
The speaker is expected to provide a 20-minute presentation on the topic, including relevant information for European SMEs, such as the impact of the new regulations on their operations. The keynote speech will be followed by a brief Q&A session with European SMEs.
About the workshop
The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has recently introduced the new “Regulations on Promoting and Regulating Cross-border Data Flow”, which came into effect on 22 March 2024, replacing previous regulations from 2022. The new regulations bring about significant changes, such as less strict timelines, reduced documentation requirements, and exemptions for data transfer, especially concerning employee data. They also provide more flexible thresholds for standard contracts and security assessments. Additionally, free trade zones now have the authority to create their own negative lists for data transfer activities.
Despite the perceived relaxation and clarity brought by the new rule, it is crucial to emphasise that stringent compliance requirements persist. Factors like cybersecurity, data security, and Personal Information Protection (PIP) rules are still strictly enforced, necessitating compliance efforts on data mapping, legal documentation, and privacy policies.
To shed light on these developments, our 16 May training workshop will gather industry experts to share insights on the significant business implications for EU SMEs and offer practical guidance on steps businesses should take to adhere to the new regulations.
Selection criteria
The selection of the speaker will be made according to the relevance of the proposals with regard to the topics outlined.
This event will be a hybrid workshop: the speaker can give the presentation onsite in Beijing or online.
Please note: this is an informative event. The speakers shall not promote personal or corporate material.
