On 18 July 2024, the European Chamber met with representatives of the Guangzhou Private Economy and Small and Medium Enterprises Bureau: Mr Zeng Defeng, Director of the Service System Construction Department, and Chen Sining, Deputy Investigator of the Service System Construction Department. The meeting aimed to discuss how to solve the main challenges encountered by European SMEs in China and explore related policies supporting the development of SMEs.
The meeting was joined by Ms Daisy Yang, Chair of European Chamber SME Forum, Ms Danica Mai, Vice Chair of European Chamber SME Forum, and Ms Lynn Wu, Business and Government Affairs Manager of the European Chamber South China Chapter.
During the meeting, representatives from the European Chamber highlighted the key challenges faced by European SMEs, including difficulties in accessing financing, complex administrative procedures, cash flow limitations, and insufficient policy transparency. In response, Mr Zeng recommended several platforms and websites for SMEs to obtain the latest news and policies.

Among the activities of the Forum, the annual publication of the Inter-Chamber SME Working Group Position Paper is the product of extensive feedback gathering from European SMEs in China conducted through the Inter-Chamber SME Working Group. The Position Paper is the main vehicle of the European Chamber and EU SME Centre for SME advocacy, as it contains the key concerns and recommendations from European SMEs on a given year.
