About Fuzhou: Economy, Connectivity and Development Zones

Fuzhou is the capital city of Fujian province located in the Southeast China, facing Taiwan to the east. Since China’s opening up in 1978, Fujian has received significant investment from overseas Fujianese around the world, Taiwanese and foreign companies. Here is an overview of Fuzhou’s economy, transportation and development zones.

Economy

In 2015, Fuzhou’s GDP reached CNY 5.6 trillion, increasing 9.6 percent from the previous year. Its pillar industries include:

Ports

Fuzhou has two deepwater ports and an undeveloped deepwater shoreline, with a gross deadweight tonnage of up to 500,000 tons.

Jiangyin Port in Fuzhou can accommodate ships with a gross deadweight tonnage of up to 250,000 tons, ranking among China’s top ports. The Luoyuan Bay, facing Taiwan across the sea, is home to Mainland China’s largest and closest deepwater port to the Port of Keelung in Taiwan.

Fuzhou Port has opened 43 foreign trade ocean-going and near-sea container lines. The city has shipping links to North America, Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Airport

The Fuzhou Changle International Airport (长乐国际机场) links to more than 50 destinations and has nearly 160 inbound and outbound flights every day.

Development Zones

Fuzhou has 22 industry parks and development zones. Below is an overview of the major parks.

Fuzhou Software Park

• Largest in Fujian, an area of 1 million sqm.
• 436 enterprises employing 13,000 people

• Key fields: computer services, software design, outsourcing services and creative industries

Rongqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone

• Targeted businesses: overseas Chinese businesses
• 519 enterprises in the sectors of electronics, auto parts, plastics, food, and building materials

Fuzhou Bonded Zone

• Targeted businesses: trading companies
• 1.8 square kilometres

• 4 functional quarters: bonded warehouse, export-oriented processing, international trade and bonded port

• Preferential tariff policy, tax policy, free trade policy and financial policy
• Easy access by air, sea and land
• Licence-free for cargo shipment in and out of this area

Fuqing Jiangyin Economic Development Zone

• Targeted businesses: electrical energy, metallurgy, machinery equipment, manufacturing, modern logistics, chemical new materials
• Planned area: 158.6 sq.km.

• 3 in 1: container port, logistics centre and port-surrounding industrial base

• Preferential land policies
