The European Chamber of Commerce in China and the EU SME Centre met with H.E. Mr  Wojciech Zajączkowski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Beijing on the 12th March. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the European Chamber and discuss the key messages of the position paper 2017/18 as well as recent developments in China.

Main issues of discussion include Two Sessions, constitution amendments, China’s willingness to reform and opening up, party organisations in joint ventures.

The Ambassador informed that the Polish economy is very diversified in comparison to other European economies and it is sustained mainly by SMEs. Although Polish SMEs are internationalising, they serve mainly the European internal market or markets of neighbour countries. There are only a few that come to China. They prefer to first get international experience near their home country before coming to a bigger market which is more complex and difficult. The Ambassador and his team praised the work done by the EU SME Centre in helping SMEs to get ready for China. There was also a discussion on issues related to late payments and access to finance.
