On September 25th, 2015, CCPIT-ECOTECH invited Centre Director Christopher Cheung to give a presentation in Haimen City, Jiangsu province, at the opening event of the Haimen International Technology Innovation District Opening. During the presentation Christopher underlined the EU SME Centre’s potential to bring innovative EU SMEs to China particularly through the Enterprise Europe Network platform.

During the visit he met with Mr Jiang Long, Haimen Municipal Party Secretary and Mr Yang Xiaodong, CEO of CCPIT-ECOTECH, who introduced Haimen City and its many strengths; the city, with a population of just over one million, maintains geographical and logistical advantages being on the doorstep of Shanghai and has key industrial strengths in the pharmaceutical, biological, construction, and textile sectors.

The city is also boosting its investment in innovation infrastructure as evidenced by the development of Haimen Science & Technology Park which includes a Biotech & Medicine Centre, Science & Education Park, Hi-Tech Industrial Base and interestingly for EU SMEs an International SMEs Science Park.

Christopher remarked to local Haimen CCTV that he could see that the city was well located and fast developing and he looked forward to collaborations between innovative EU and Chinese SMEs in the future. “By 2025 there will be over 220 Chinese cities each with a population of over one million; EU SMEs should be looking to these fast growing regional cities for opportunities in China’s changing economy.” Christopher Cheung, EU SME Centre Director.
